Joshua 24:15 (King James Version)

15And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Tonight, is a night of sadness and prayer as a phone call brings bad news about a friend and neighbor.  As often I do at times like this I turn the bible for comfort.  The verse to which my bible opened tonight and my eyes were drawn is above.  The Lord's message is clear.

When terrible things happen to people we love, it's easy to show anger and ask "Why Lord?"  How can you do this to such a good God fearing person?  It's easy during these times for evil to creep into our thoughts by way of this anger and sadness.

Joshua 24:15 reminds us to "serve the LORD".  This friend who has fallen ill, recently told us "Don't worry about me, because this world is not my home.  This earthly life is merely a brief interruption of my journey to my heavenly home!"  My friend knows that through the Grace of our Lord his Heavenly reward awaits him and he has no fear of death!

Heavenly Father, I pray that you give my friend strength and ease his pain as Your will be done!  I also pray dear Lord that you give my friend's family strength and peace during the coming weeks.  These things I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
